The Vyair Supa-Pro Filter System is a water treatment and purification system used for the removal of Chlorine, Heavy Metals and other impurities from a tap water supply. This Big Blue Jumbo filtration systems are optimised for Ornamental Fish keepers and Koi Pond enthusiasts, who desire the ultimate in water filtration for their aquatic hobby.

The Pond Supa-Pro range is also ideal for Swimming Pool and Drinking Water filtration. The combination of high capacity  5 micron Sediment/Particle Filter, Chlorine/Chloramine Reduction carbon Block with an additional 20" Jumbo Carbon Filter ensures that the water delivered by this filtration system is  fresher and cleaner than directly from a tap.

With extra large 20" "Big Blue Jumbo" filter housings for the main filtration, this system is the largest capacity of the Supa-Pro Range. The Sediment filtration stage also has the added benefit of a clear filter bowl housing, as a visual indicator as to when the Sediment and particle pre-filter
becomes soiled and may need changing.

  • Activated carbon filters remove/reduce many volatile organic chemicals (VOC), some pesticides and herbicides, and include chlorine, benzene, trihalomethane (THM) compounds, radon,  certain solvents and hundreds of other man-made chemicals found in tap water.

What is Chloramine and how does it differ from Chlorine?
  • Chlorine has been used for many years as a bactericide in Public Water supplies.
  • There is recent research that Chlorine when in contact with organic matter can , convert organic materials into chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, and other chlorocarbons.
  • These compounds have been identified as carcinogens and in 1979 the U.S. EPA began regulating their levels in U.S. drinking water.
  • Chloramine also exhibits less tendency to convert organic materials
  • Another big point in chloramine’s favour, water treated with chloramine lacks tend to lack the chlorine smell of tap water with a corresponding big improvement in taste
  • The fact of the matter is that Chloramine is toxic to life that is why it is used as a disinfectant.
  • This is why ornamental fish keepers must remove the Chloramine from their tap water because it is toxic to aquatic life. Also many animals are also susceptible to Chloramine.
  • The disadvantage of using Chloramine is that it not as strong and aslower acting disinfectant than free chlorine (chlorine). It is particularly weak for inactivating some viruses.

There is growing pressure about the use of Chlorine in our water supplies, is producing carcinogenic compounds harmful to health.  There are some water authorities that are using Chloramine to disinfect your drinking water and it is important that you check with you local water authority.  If you do not have Chloramine in your tap water you may wish to consider the lower cost system that will remove/reduce Chlorine and other dissolved substances saving on the high cost of the specialist  Catalytic Carbon Chloramine reduction filter.

Chloramine is considered potentially toxic in levels higher than 4 mg/L. With more and more water systems using chloramines there is growing concern that there may an cumulative impact on health.

Remember unlike Chlorine which you can smell in your water Chloramine is odourless, and can be considered the silent killer for aquatic life, and perhaps not the nicest chemical to be consuming in your drinking water.
